It’s a great place to stay if you want to rub shoulders with the A-List elite whilst relaxing by a rooftop pool or enjoying craft cocktails at one of the many fashionable bars.

Home to the Hollywood sign, the Walk of Fame and a host of other iconic landmarks, West Hollywood is also the perfect base for exploring Los Angeles.

First on our list of the best hotels in West Hollywood is 1 Hotel, West Hollywood.

Right off the Sunset Strip, eco-friendly 1 Hotel is the first new-build hotel property in West Hollywood in 30 years. It’s a high-rise complex made up of completely sustainable materials spanning two buildings. The view from the top of the hotel is spectacular, offering sweeping panoramas of Los Angeles.

The feel inside 1 Hotel is of warm and cozy luxury. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and not at all intimidating.

The rooftop pool is the perfect place to spend the day topping up your tan, with superb views overlooking the valley.

Next to the pool, you’ll find Harriet’s Rooftop Bar. The lounge seating and colorful striped sofas give the space a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere, while the extensive champagne menu offers an excellent selection of drinks.

The hotel provides a range of programmes and activities for guests, including yoga classes, guided walks in the surrounding hills, and tarot card readings. You can also participate in after-dinner meditation sessions on the hotel’s private garden terrace.

The rooms are spacious and light-filled, with walls painted in soothing shades of white and grey. Everything is in the room is made from repurposed wood from local suppliers, except of course, the huge flat screen TV.

The hotel restaurant, Kitchen 1, serves Southern California cuisine in a healthy, sustainable way. Executive chef Chris Crary has designed a menu with the intention of limiting waste, featuring delicious dishes that are locally sourced and prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients.

A second restaurant, Alice’s, provides a more casual setting. Here you can enjoy delicious breakfast options such as the chia pudding or a breakfast burrito, as well as an array of other sandwiches and salads.

The West Hollywood EDITION

Second on my list of the best hotels in West Hollywood is The West Hollywood EDITION.

Even though The West Hollywood EDITION is located slap-bang-in-the-middle of Sunset Boulevard, pulling up the driveway to this hotel feels like entering a lush oasis in the heart of the city. Just beyond the entrance is a wide stretch of lush greenery that will make you instantly forget you’re just moments from the traffic-clogged streets of Los Angeles.

As soon as you step inside you’ll find yourself among WeHo’s most stylish scenes. Low key celebrities are often seen lounging on the electric blue velvet sofas and hip travelers playing at the pool table.

The rooftop pool is one of the hotel’s most popular hangouts. With a sun-drenched, plant-filled outdoor seating area, it has an expansive deck and a bar stocked with drinks and food. It offers city views, a pool, and an extensive tequila-themed cocktail menu to enjoy.

There’s also a large fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment for cardio and weight training, including Peloton bikes and TRX. An on-site spa uses natural plant extracts and CBD treatments to provide you with holistic wellbeing.

The 190 rooms are spacious and light-filled. Each room is equipped with modern and sleek amenities, and is decorated with tasteful accessories that make it feel like a designer’s home.

Most of the rooms have private balconies or terraces overlooking the Hollywood Hills, or downtown Los Angeles.

The hotel restaurant, Ardor, is headed by acclaimed chef John Fraser. He trained with Thomas Keller at the famous French Laundry. It’s an ideal choice for vegans and vegetarians as Ardor’s menu specializes in mainly plant-based dishes.

If you’re in the mood for a drink after dinner, head to the rooftop of the hotel for a Mexican-inspired menu and an impressive selection of tequila. Alternatively, head downstairs to the lobby bar and sample a selection of gin cocktails.

Then, when you’re sufficiently lubricated, party downstairs at Sunset nightclub, where DJs play all night long.

Sunset Tower Hotel

A landmark building in Hollywood since its opening in 1931, Sunset Tower has been home to the Hollywood elite for decades. Located on Sunset Boulevard, the hotel houses 81 rooms, a luxurious rooftop pool and bar, the star-studded Tower Restaurant, and a Joanna Vargas Spa.

The rooms at Sunset Tower were renovated by designer Paul Fortune just over 10 years ago. They were given a modernization makeover, with wood paneling and floor-to-ceiling windows. Subtle lighting was also added to give the room’s a cozy ambiance.

Breakfast and lunch here is a casual affair. The signature dish of smashed avocado on toast is the perfect way to start your day, and the lobster tacos are the perfect addition to an afternoon spent poolside.

Dinner at the swanky Tower Restaurant is a glamorous affair with celebrities in abundance. The maître d’ is well-versed in VIP seating (this is a go-to spot for Jennifer Aniston) and will help you ensure that you can enjoy your meal without sharing space with other diners or making any unwanted connections.

Kimpton La Peer Hotel

Next on my list of the best hotels in West Hollywood is Kimpton La Peer.

Located just off of Melrose Avenue, La Peer has a boutique hotel feel despite being part of the Kimpton chain. With just 105 rooms it has a cozy vibe. You immediately feel at home here.

The lobby is at the heart of the hotel. Décor includes patchwork sofas, leather furniture, and bronzed columns. Just off from the lobby you’ll find a small lap pool and a trendy indoor/outdoor bar area.

Guests can help themselves to free coffee, juice, and kombucha throughout the day by the check-in desk. And at 5pm, a wine cart is rolled out offering complimentary wine.

You won’t find a slew of Hollywood A-listers at La Peer as it’s more of a tourist hotel, but its non-pretentious approach to hospitality definitely still makes it one of the best hotels in West Hollywood.

The rooms are beautifully decorated and feature accent pieces. They are both modern yet cozy, with natural materials and a soft palette of color. The bed has a luxurious white duvet, while concrete floors have been polished to a glossy finish. Warehouse-style windows let in plenty of that California sunshine.

The hotel restaurant, Viale dei Romani, has a buzzing atmosphere and is famous for its trattoria-style cooking. Expect loud music and a lively vibe as diners feast on pizzas, pasta dishes, and other Italian classics.

For breakfast, make sure you order the ‘World’s Best Avocado Toast’. Other highlights from the breakfast menu include the Ricotta Flatcake with maple syrup and Scrambled Eggs with bacon hash.

Petit Ermitage

Last on my list of the best hotels in West Hollywood is Petit Ermitage. You’ll find this hidden gem tucked away on a residential street between Santa Monica and Sunset Boulevard.

Petit Ermitage is a Spanish colonial-inspired maze of small, intimate suites that seem like they’ve been there forever. Its style is eclectic, with influences from the traditional riad in Marrakech to the French boudoir, and a splash of circus thrown in for good measure.

The rooftop is where the action happens. Enjoy the saltwater pool on the sun-drenched terrace surrounded by an abundance of ornaments and plants.

The 79 elegant, dimly lit suites are furnished with dark-wood headboards and antique furniture. They have quirky design features such as birdcages hanging from the ceiling and vintage trunks stacked in the corner of each room.

A buffet breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace. The selection is great for a small hotel, you’ll find granola, yogurt, berries, fruit, cheeses, artisan breads with spreads, and eggs. You can also enjoy a magical Moroccan-inspired dinner here seated under twinkly lights.
